I Must admit I’m fed up of this structuralist mindset that is dominating the art world at the moment. Peter Scott has commented that it is ‘no matter what strategy of denial one adopts’, when actually, your perceived ‘denial’ is part of the structuralist framework which you so fearfully cling to.
Painting is NOT language. Painting is, as Auerbach said, ‘dumb’. The narrative is a perceived social construct and not something which is absolute.
How can you blindly justify and pretend to interpret artwork with social bias of our world? You are completely misunderstanding what painting is, its duality in its own world where your set of structuralist rules simply cannot apply.

There’s no getting away from the fact that a painting is a visual image, no matter what strategy of denial one adopts. It is illusionistic of form, no matter what denial of the fact. One can pretend all one likes, that one is not involved in the creation of such a thing, but the facts remain, the 2D data set.
