I have just read a book entitled ‘Thinking Fast and Slow’ which I believe is relevant. It does not address this question in relation to painting as the writer Daniel Kahneman is more of a broad thinking economist but I was struck by its obvious application to my painting and to others I would guess. I switch from one to the other but to get a grasp of this apparently obvious subject reading the book would help. Repeatedly what is simple and obvious turns out not to be. Kahneman by the way got the Nobel Prize for this lifetime of research.
