About Us

Welcome to Abstract Critical, the digital salon where ideas, intuition, and aesthetics collide. This space is for those who find wonder in a brushstroke, tension in a sculpture, or a new perspective in a sharply written essay. Whether you’re an artist, thinker, student, or just curious — you’re in the right place.

We’re here to untangle the complexities of abstract and contemporary art, to make the opaque meaningful, and to champion thoughtful critique over empty noise. This isn’t just about opinions — it’s about insight, discovery, and dialogue.

So grab a coffee, step into the discussion, and let’s rethink what art can be — together.

OUR STORY

Abstract Critical began as a conversation between friends — artists, writers, and cultural critics — who believed that abstract and contemporary art deserved more than fleeting Instagram captions or vague press releases. We wanted real engagement, bold thinking, and writing that honors both the head and the heart.

From that spark, we built this space — part publication, part community, part archive of living thought.

We publish essays, exhibition reviews, artist interviews, visual diaries, and theoretical explorations that go beyond the surface. Our contributors bring different backgrounds — from formal art history to street-level curation — but share one thing: a genuine obsession with what art means today.

This isn’t academia. This isn’t clickbait. This is Abstract Critical.

MEET OUR TEAM

Clara E. Voss

Editor-in-Chief
Clara’s roots are in art history and critical theory, but her passion lives in studio visits and late-night debates about color and space. She believes writing about art should feel like experiencing it — electric and alive.

Omar Hale

Senior Editor
A former curator turned critic, Omar brings curatorial precision and street sensibility. He’s fascinated by the politics of abstraction and how artists distort form to tell truths.

Jesslyn Rowe

Features Writer
A poet and painter, Jesslyn brings lyrical insight and an eye for the poetic in the visual. She writes pieces that make you feel the art even if you’ve never stepped into the gallery.

Mika Tanaka

Research & Archives
Mika’s job is connecting dots — between movements, artists, and philosophies. Her research gives our features historical depth and sharp context.

…and many more guest voices who drop by to lend their thoughts and perspectives to our ongoing conversation.

OUR FOCUS

We specialize in abstract, conceptual, and contemporary art — from the classics of modernism to the most recent experiments on the fringe.

What we publish:

  • Thoughtful art criticism
  • In-depth exhibition reviews
  • Artist profiles and interviews
  • Essays on aesthetics, form, and theory
  • Visual essays and commentary

Every piece is driven by curiosity, rigor, and a love for the visual language of abstraction.

WHY READ ABSTRACT CRITICAL?

  • Because we ask the questions other sites skip.
  • Because we value both feeling and form.
  • Because we believe art criticism should be as creative as the work it covers.
  • Because in a world of noise, we offer depth, nuance, and care.
